Marcos to DOE, NGCP: Ensure timely completion of power projects

CAPAS: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Friday directed the Department of Energy (DOE) and National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) to ensure the timely completion of transmission projects as the government moves to provide reliable electricity supply across the country. Speaking at the inauguration of the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose Transmission in Hermosa, Bataan, Marcos tasked the DOE and the NGCP to finish the almost 70 transmission projects under the Transmission Development Plan, particularly the Batangas-Mindoro Interconnection Project and the Northern Luzon 230-kiloVolt (kV) Loop. 'This way, we can meet our increasing energy demand, encourage technological advancements, and produce more employment opportunities for our people,' he said. 'I look forward to the impact that your endeavors will bring to our country, especially as we now make inroads towards unlocking the full development potential in the green and in the blue economies, which is suited to the Philippines.' The Mariveles-Hermos a-San Jose 500-kV project is a major component in the NGCP's planned Western Luzon 500-kV transmission backbone. According to NGCP President Anthony Almeda, the Mariveles-Hermosa-San Jose Transmission Line will benefit about 59 million Filipinos in Luzon. With a project cost of PHP20.94 billion, it includes 395 transmission towers, 275.6 circuit km. of overhead lines, two new substations, and 2,000 MegaVolt Amperes (MVA) of substation capacity. The President said the new transmission project 'attests to the transformative power of collaboration between the public and the private sectors to be able to attain a stable, reliable, and resilient power supply for the country.'
