Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced his intention to endorse the 'best' candidate for the 2028 presidential race, aiming to ensure the continuation of his administration's legacy. Speaking at a presidential luncheon hosted by the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines at Diamond Hotel Philippines, Marcos emphasized his commitment to selecting a candidate who would not only sustain but also enhance the developmental initiatives of his tenure.

According to Philippines News Agency, Marcos stated that while he is committed to endorsing a candidate, it is premature to identify the potential standard-bearer of his political party, Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP). He admitted that he is yet to determine the most suitable successor, as the process is still in its early stages. "Who that is, I cannot tell you because even I don't know," Marcos remarked, highlighting the uncertainty at this juncture with only one person currently expressing interest in the race.

The President expressed openness to collaborating with other political parties, considering the possibility of fielding joint candidates or an independent slate. Despite acknowledging the intrigue of preelection surveys, Marcos cautioned that they may not hold much significance this far from the election date. He noted the potential for numerous political developments to unfold before the elections, making any decision premature at this stage.

Marcos also revealed that he has not yet initiated discussions with any individuals regarding their presidential ambitions. He reassured that there is ample time for such conversations, indicating that the decision-making process would evolve as the political landscape becomes clearer.
