Manila: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called upon local government units (LGUs) to intensify efforts in transparency and participatory governance, highlighting the significance of public trust in the visibility of taxpayer-funded project implementations. Speaking at the SubayBAYANI Awards 2025 held at the Manila Hotel, Marcos stressed the critical role of transparency in preventing corruption and underscored the necessity for maintaining high standards in public services.

According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos addressed the audience, emphasizing that the Filipino people are vigilant and have the right to critique government actions. He remarked that government officials are tasked with crafting and delivering genuine and reliable public service. The President noted that when the public has access to government processes, it empowers them as partners in promoting accountability.

Marcos urged for a strengthening of open and participative governance across all levels, a stance he firmly supports. He highlighted the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Transparency Portal as a vital tool in ensuring that infrastructure projects are transparent, allowing the public to monitor each phase of project implementation, from procurement to final utilization.

The President's call comes in the context of an extensive government investigation into anomalies in flood control projects. During the awards event, 126 LGUs, nine Top Overall Performers, and three Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) regional offices were recognized for their exemplary collaboration and evidence-based monitoring.

Marcos encouraged the awardees to uphold high standards, asserting that a government that is worthy of its people does not settle for mediocrity, cut corners, or waver in its commitments.
