Silang: President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. addressed the new graduates of the Philippine National Police Academy (PNPA) Sinaglawin Class of 2025, urging them to maintain courage and integrity as they embark on their law enforcement careers. Speaking in Cavite, Marcos emphasized the importance of visible and principled law enforcement amidst various challenges faced by the country.
According to Philippines News Agency, President Marcos highlighted the need for the 206 new police lieutenants to uphold the ideals of public service, particularly during times when their principles might be tested. He acknowledged the internal issues and public perception challenges facing the Philippine National Police (PNP) but expressed confidence that this new batch of young officers could help steer the institution toward honor and professionalism.
Marcos reminded the graduates of their oath to the Republic, their duty to uphold the constitution, and their responsibility to the citizens. He called on them to be a constant, reassuring presence in communities, emphasizing that while perfection isn't expected, their presence is crucial. The President further inspired the graduates by asserting that their journey signifies their preparedness to make a difference in society.
During the ceremony, President Marcos awarded diplomas to the graduates, including the prestigious Presidential Kampilan Award to Class Valedictorian Marc Joseph Vitto from Gloria, Oriental Mindoro. Vitto was also recognized with the Journalism Kampilan Award, Best in Forensic Science, and Best in General Education.
In his valedictory address, Vitto encouraged his fellow graduates to remain committed to their mission as guardians of peace. He urged them to honor their oaths and live lives that reflect positively on their names, promising the Filipino people that they would never be abandoned, even at great personal cost.
The Sinaglawin Class of 2025 is notable for being the first batch of PNPA graduates to be deployed exclusively to the police force, following Republic Act 11279, which shifted the academy's supervision to the PNP. This transition marks the conclusion of the traditional deployment of graduates to the Tri-Bureau, which included the Bureau of Fire Protection and Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.
