Marikina city: Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro has ordered heightened traffic management and security measures in major commercial and market areas as the city braces for increased shoppers and motorists during the Christmas season.

According to Philippines News Agency, Teodoro has directed the Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS) along with traffic enforcers to improve vehicle flow after observing heavier congestion in markets and business districts. The directive comes in response to the annual holiday rush, which often sees a significant uptick in both pedestrian and vehicular movement throughout the city.

Teodoro instructed the OPSS to deploy more personnel at key entry and exit points, as well as major intersections that are prone to gridlock. This move is aimed at mitigating the congestion that has been reported by the public, who have experienced longer travel times even outside of peak hours. The mayor emphasized the importance of making data-driven traffic adjustments to address these challenges effectively.

In addition to managing traffic flow, Teodoro ordered stricter enforcement of loading and unloading rules. There will also be tougher action against illegal parking, which contributes to the congestion during the holiday rush. The mayor stated that these measures are not intended to inconvenience the public but are necessary to protect people's time, safety, and ensure the smooth flow of daily life in Marikina, particularly during the Christmas season.

The city's major malls, including SM City Marikina, Ayala Malls Marikina, C and B Circle Mall, Blue Wave Mall, and Riverbanks Center, are expected to be the focal points of increased activity. The measures are designed to handle the surge in visitors to these commercial centers efficiently.
