Marikina city: Marikina City Mayor Maan Teodoro has ordered the allocation of PHP15 million to initially address Barangay Tumana's outstanding debt and ensure the renewal of water services before Christmas.

According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Teodoro has urged the Sangguniang Panlungsod to promptly pass a proposed ordinance to allocate funds to resolve the water crisis in Tumana, following the disconnection of water supply by Manila Water. In a statement, Teodoro expressed her determination to prevent more than 3,000 residents of Barangay Tumana from experiencing a waterless Christmas.

In her communication to the City Council, Teodoro emphasized the urgent necessity for an ordinance to facilitate the swift reestablishment of water services in Barangay Tumana. She described the initiative as both compassionate and prudent, aimed at providing immediate relief while ensuring accountability in the utilization of public resources.

Furthermore, Teodoro highlighted that this measure reaffirms the city government's dedication to safeguarding public health, maintaining human dignity, and serving the citizens of Marikina. Reports submitted to the mayor's office indicated that officials in Barangay Tumana allegedly failed to remit water payments totaling approximately PHP37.2 million, which led Manila Water to terminate the water supply on December 18, 2025.

Mayor Teodoro has committed to holding accountable those officials responsible for not settling the debt. "I will not allow the people of Tumana to suffer because of the shortcomings of a few," she declared.
