Fifty families from two villages who have evacuated following Thursday night's flooding in Davao Oriental’s city of Mati have returned home, an official said.
In an interview Friday, Ben Jason Tesiorna, Mati information officer, said the affected families were given the go-signal to return home after sleeping overnight in their respective villages’ covered courts.
They were provided with tents, blankets, and food, among others, after being rescued by personnel of the city’s disaster response team, he said.
Tesiorna said no major damage were reported during the flooding incident.
A report from the Mati City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office said the rescue was prompted by several distress calls made by residents of the two villages amid a heavy downpour Thursday night.
Rescue teams rushed to Purok Kawayan Sudlon Riverside, Puroks Tambiling, Bilawan, and Calagundian in Barangay Central as well as Purok Durian in Barangay Mayo to help the families trapped in their inundated homes.
By 10 p.m., floodwaters receded but the evacuees remained at the evacuation centers and waited the next morning before returning home.
