Manila: Tropical Storm Maymay (Kujira) has made landfall in the vicinity of Magsingal, Ilocos Sur, the weather bureau reported Thursday. The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) indicated the cyclone was located in the vicinity of San Juan, Ilocos Sur as of 4 a.m., moving eastward at 10 kph.

According to Philippines News Agency, the storm has maximum sustained winds of 65 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 110 kph. Gale-force winds are expected in areas where signal no. 2 is raised, including Ilocos Norte, the northern and central portions of Ilocos Sur, the western portion of Apayao, Abra, the western portion of Kalinga, and the western portion of Mountain Province.

Strong winds are anticipated in regions under signal no. 1, such as the rest of Ilocos Sur, La Union, the northern portion of Pangasinan, and various other locations. Despite the storm's impact, most of the country will continue to experience strong to gale-force gusts due to Maymay and the southwest monsoon.

PAGASA has issued a gale warning for the western seaboard of Northern Luzon. The cyclone is expected to move across the mountainous terrain of Northern and Central Luzon before possibly reaching the eastern coastal waters of Isabela or Cagayan. The storm is forecast to weaken into a tropical depression and eventually into a remnant low within the day.
