Misamis oriental: The provincial government of Misamis Oriental will explore means to settle outstanding payables of more than PHP510.9 million to streamline its obligations and improve services. During Monday's convocation at the provincial capitol, Governor Juliette Uy said she aims for transparency and efficient public service during her term.
According to Philippines News Agency, Uy indicated that the funds to address these obligations would likely be sourced from the General Fund, School Fund, and Trust Fund. "We have billions of pesos of debts coming from the purchases of equipment, but at least we are using this equipment," she explained.
The payables, accumulated over previous years, were detailed in the accounting records of Provincial Treasurer Ronald Jame Violon and Provincial Accountant Philip Louie Dagoc. The officials reported that the previous administration had a standing balance of more than PHP934.9 million, with an unliquidated cash balance of PHP65 million.
Meanwhile, Governor Uy also expressed her intention to legalize small-scale mining activities. She emphasized that the current practice is illegal, resulting in benefits for only a few entities, and aims to involve larger communities to ensure broader participation and advantage.
