Manila: Three new sensor-based traffic signal lights have been installed at the North Luzon Expressway (NLEX) Connector Interchanges in three separate locations within Manila and Caloocan. The initiative was announced during a ceremony at the Magsaysay NLEX Interchange, where Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) Chair Romando 'Don' Artes emphasized the alignment of this project with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to adopt advanced technologies for improved service delivery.
According to Philippines News Agency, the newly installed signal lights are located at C3 Road in Caloocan, the intersection of Espa±a Boulevard and Antipolo Street, and the Magsaysay NLEX Interchange. The project, in collaboration with NLEX Corporation, aims to enhance vehicle flow and manage pedestrian crossings effectively in these areas.
Artes highlighted that these traffic signals are equipped with adaptive signaling systems that utilize sensors, replacing traditional timers. This technology enables real-time adjustments based on traffic conditions, facilitating smoother vehicular flow and ensuring safer pedestrian crossings.
He further stressed the significance of partnerships in advancing traffic management and road safety in Metro Manila. Artes stated, "This project exemplifies the achievements possible through strong collaborations between public and private sectors, contributing to a safer and more efficient road network for everyone."
Currently, MMDA has removed traffic lights with timers and has achieved a 90 percent installation rate of adaptive signal lights across the city.
