MMDA Bans Mall-Wide Sales Near FIVB Championship Venues

Manila: The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) has temporarily banned mall-wide sales in shopping malls surrounding two venues of the FIVB Volleyball Men's World Championship 2025. The ban is part of a strategic effort to manage traffic and accommodate the influx of international guests attending the prestigious event.

According to Philippines News Agency, the MMDA issued a memorandum circular on Wednesday detailing the implementation of the sales ban in malls near the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City and the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City. The restriction will be in effect from September 12 to 14, with additional dates for the SM Mall of Asia Arena from September 20 to 21 and September 27 to 28.

The decision aims to mitigate heavy traffic and control the flow of people to malls during key match weekends of the tournament, which is being hosted by the Philippines for the first time. The MMDA has called for cooperation from selected mall operators to ensure the successful hosting of the tournament, which will feature teams from 32 countries.

The event is expected to attract not only players but also delegates, international guests, and volleyball fans from around the globe. To manage the situation, the MMDA will deploy traffic personnel to assist in traffic management and ensure the security of visitors to the country.
