Mandaue: The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has handed over 50 modular shelter units (MSUs) to the Mandaue City government to provide safer temporary housing for families displaced by Super Typhoon Uwan, also known internationally as Fung-wong.

According to Philippines News Agency, DHSUD Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling announced in a news release that the deployment of the MSUs is a critical component of establishing the Mandaue City Bayanihan Village. This initiative aligns with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s directive to ensure dignified and secure temporary shelters for families affected by disasters. Aliling emphasized that the Bayanihan Village plan includes essential facilities like a day care center, clinic, and a training or livelihood center to enhance the comfort and dignity of residents displaced by the calamity.

Aliling also reiterated the government's commitment to assist affected families in rebuilding their lives. The DHSUD has pledged approximately 200 MSUs for Mandaue City, which will not only serve as temporary shelters but also host essential community facilities.

Assistant Secretary Johnson Domingo represented the DHSUD at the turnover ceremony, which was led by Mandaue City Mayor Thadeo Jovito Ouano. The deployment of MSUs and establishment of Bayanihan Villages in disaster-affected areas are part of DHSUD's strategies under the Bagong Pilipinas governance thrust, aimed at improving living conditions for families impacted by calamities.

DHSUD has previously deployed MSUs in earthquake-affected areas in Cebu and Davao Oriental and provided similar units to San Juan City for families affected by fires. Aliling expressed commitment to continue efforts to deploy more MSUs to local government units hit by various calamities.
