MORE Power Enhances Renewable Energy Portfolio with New Solar Supply Agreement

Iloilo city: More Electric and Power Corporation (MORE Power) continues to strengthen its Renewable Portfolio Standard (RPS) with the signing of a new power supply agreement for 6.6 megawatts (MW) of clean energy. MORE Power president and chief executive officer Roel Castro signed the pact with Urban Energy Development Corp. (UEDC) president Alfonso Javier Reyes.

According to Philippines News Agency, UEDC, a subsidiary of Mabuhay Power Holdings Corp., won the competitive selection process conducted by MORE Power on April 4. The additional supply will come from the upcoming 8 MW-peak solar power plant being established by UEDC in Anilao, Iloilo. The solar project is expected to break ground later this year and supply MORE Power with clean energy by mid-2026.

Roel Castro emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, "We are steadily increasing the share of renewables in our power mix. With this new project, we take another significant step in hitting our long-term clean energy targets, ensuring our customers benefit from affordable, reliable and greener power." He also highlighted that the partnership is part of their mission to lead Iloilo towards a more sustainable energy future.

Currently, MORE Power's renewable energy footprint is approximately 33 percent. This initiative aligns with the campaign of the Department of Energy for utilities and distribution companies to meet their RPS obligations, which requires a growing share of renewable energy in their supply portfolios each year. Castro added, "This is not just compliance. This is commitment. We are driving the transition to a cleaner energy future -- not just for Iloilo City, but as a model for utilities across the country."

Alfonso Javier Reyes, president of UEDC, expressed that the solar power plant project, UEDC's first in Iloilo, contributes to the country's clean energy aspirations and provides new investment and development opportunities in the region. "We are committed to delivering on schedule and at the highest quality standards," he said.

The agreement signing was attended by Mabuhay Power Holdings Corp. chair Sherwin Go Hing, chief operations officer Carlo Jose Morales, MORE Power chief operations officer JM Zaporteza, vice president for corporate energy sourcing and commercial affairs Niel Parcon, and energy sourcing manager Raphael Dorilag.
