MANILAA total of 143,085 local and overseas employment opportunities will be offered in 37 job fairs to be held across the country on May 1, Labor Day, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) said Friday.
Undersecretary Joel Maglunsod said more than 1,000 participating employers, including government agencies, will offer some 84,000 overseas jobs and 58,171 local ones.
The increase in the number of job openings was made possible with the participation of more employers in the job fairs. We now have 1,099 participating employers, he said during the second pre-Labor Day press conference in Manila.
Over and above these numbers, we want to see more jobseekers to be hired on-the-spot (HOTS) once they apply on May 1. This is why we encourage those seeking employment to take advantage of this opportunity to be HOT on Labor Day, he said.
A total of 7,917 jobs vacancies will be offered by the government, mostly in the Philippine National Police, Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Jail Management and Penology, and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency.
Meanwhile, Maglunsod said it is not yet all lost as far as the issue on the signing of executive order (EO) on contractualization is concerned.
We continue to be open to the possibility that the much-awaited EO will be reconsidered by our President, he said. Hopefully, by May 1, it could be reconsidered.
Last week, Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III announced that there will be no more EO on contractualization to be signed for Labor Day, as agreed upon with MalacaAang.
He, however, said President Rodrigo R. Duterte will be certifying as a priority bill the proposed Security of Tenure Act pending in Congress. (PNA)
