KUALA LUMPUR, The Malaysia Computer Emergency Response Team (MyCERT) has issued an advisory to users affected by today's global IT outage to remain updated with the latest security announcements on the issue. In a note today, MyCERT said it received information from multiple sources regarding a critical issue with the CrowdStrike Falcon Sensor update that caused a global outage of multiple systems using Microsoft Windows. "PCs or hosts using Microsoft Windows with CrowdStrike Falcon installed might experience crashes and be unable to boot into Windows properly. "Generally, MyCERT advises the users of these devices to be updated with the latest security announcements by the vendor and to follow best practice security policies to determine which updates should be applied," it said. The agency also shared a temporary workaround to resolve this issue which has been provided by CrowdStrike, as follows -- boot Windows into safe mode or the Windows Recovery Environment; navigate to the C:\Windows\System32\drive rs\CrowdStrike directory; locate the file matching 'C-00000291*.sys', and delete it; and boot the host normally. Earlier today, media reported that key institutions such as airlines, banks, media outlets and hospitals in several countries were affected by a mass cyber outage. CrowdStrike Holdings Inc is an American cybersecurity technology company based in Austin, Texas. It provides penetration workload and endpoint security, threat intelligence and cyberattack services.
