Napolcom Pledges Support for Modernizing PNP Explosive and Canine Units

Taguig city: The National Police Commission (Napolcom) has expressed its full support for the enhancement of the Philippine National Police's (PNP) Explosives and Ordnance Division/Canine Group (EOD/K9 Group). This commitment was made during a recent visit to the unit's headquarters at Camp Bagong Diwa, marking the first time a sitting Napolcom commissioner has visited the site.

According to Philippines News Agency, Napolcom Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan emphasized the critical role that the EOD/K9 Group plays in national security, anti-terrorism efforts, and public safety. He highlighted the increasing complexity of threats such as terrorism and bomb-related incidents, underscoring the necessity of modernizing the unit to effectively address these challenges.

Calinisan stated that the mission of the EOD/K9 Group is both dangerous and essential, making continuous modernization a non-negotiable priority. He pointed out the importance of sustained investments in advanced training, operational readiness, and state-of-the-art equipment to ensure the unit can meet the demands of modern law enforcement.

In his remarks, Calinisan reiterated that Napolcom serves not only as the PNP's oversight body but also as a partner in enhancing the welfare of police officers. Supporting the EOD/K9 Group, he said, is crucial for strengthening the nation's security infrastructure.

The Napolcom official assured the unit of ongoing support for initiatives aimed at upgrading operational tools, boosting personnel capabilities, and improving working conditions. Since taking office, Calinisan has made it a point to visit various PNP and Napolcom offices across the country to engage directly with stakeholders, in line with his policy of maintaining accessible leadership.
