Napolcom Resolves All Pending Cases Against Erring Police Officers

Manila: The National Police Commission (Napolcom) on Sunday announced that it has successfully resolved all pending cases against erring police officers, including a backlog that spanned more than 25 years. This development marks a significant milestone in the commission's ongoing efforts to promote accountability within the police force.

According to Philippines News Agency, the completion of the decades-long case backlog was achieved through the collective effort, discipline, and integrity of Napolcom's officials and personnel nationwide. This accomplishment highlights the commission's commitment to institutional reform and providing responsive public service. Napolcom Vice Chairperson and Executive Officer Rafael Vicente Calinisan, who assumed his post in April this year, emphasized the importance of this achievement as his primary directive. "This was my first marching order, and today we can confidently say, we delivered," Calinisan said in a statement. He further noted that they are on track for zero backlog by Tuesday, December 23, when a formal announcement will be made.

In a separate statement, Napolcom strongly condemned the killing of a police officer and the wounding of three others following an armed encounter with unidentified assailants in Barangay San Isidro, Candelaria, Quezon on December 19. The commission declared that attacks against law enforcement officers will not be tolerated and urged for the immediate identification, arrest, and prosecution of the suspects. Napolcom assured the public of its close coordination with the Philippine National Police and other relevant authorities to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted and that justice is served in accordance with the law.
