NBI Nabs Female Subcontractor Employee at NAIA for Human Trafficking

Pasay City: The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has arrested a woman at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City for human trafficking.

According to Philippines News Agency, the NBI's International Airport Investigation Division (IAID) apprehended "Diane" on June 5. She faces charges for violating Section 5(e) of Republic Act (RA) 9208, known as the Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act, which has been amended by RA 11862, the Expanded Anti-Trafficking in Persons Act.

The investigation was initiated after the Bureau of Immigration's (BI) Immigration Protection and Border Enforcement Section (I-PROBES) at Terminal 3 turned over a female passenger named "Mary" to IAID. "Mary" was intercepted while en route to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

The interception of "Mary" followed the earlier arrest of "Glaizel" by I-PROBES on June 4, who was found with a fraudulent border stamp and boarding pass. "Glaizel" claimed she had been contacted by "Diane" and another accomplice. Meanwhile, "Mary" revealed that she had been promised departure from the Philippines through the suspect's connections.

"Mary" also disclosed that she transferred PHP120,000 to "Diane" via the virtual wallet GCash. The suspect is an employee of Data Trail Corporation, a subcontractor of the New NAIA Infra Corp. NBI-IAID agents detained her during her work shift and brought her for inquest proceedings before the Pasay City Prosecutor's Office.
