Valenzuela city: The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) has seized nearly PHP2 million worth of counterfeit aerosol insecticides in separate raids in Valenzuela City and Tondo in Manila. The operation was a significant effort to tackle the issue of counterfeit products flooding the market.
According to Philippines News Agency, the NBI-Intellectual Property Rights Division (NBI-IPRD) reported that on October 1, 13,412 canisters of counterfeit Baolilai insecticides and 3,042 canisters of counterfeit Big Bie Pai insecticides, collectively valued at PHP1,972,320, were confiscated. The operation followed complaints from trademark owners about the widespread sale of counterfeit products.
The NBI-IPRD executed the raids with search warrants issued by the Regional Trial Court of Manila Branch 46. Agents targeted specific establishments and warehouses, successfully seizing the fake products. The operation underscores the authorities' commitment to enforcing intellectual property rights.
The owners of the raided establishments now face charges for violating Section 155 in relation to Section 170 (Trademark Infringement) of Republic Act No. 8293, known as the Intellectual Property Code of the Philippines. The case highlights the legal consequences of engaging in the sale and distribution of counterfeit goods.
