Iloilo city: The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) is set to embark on an initiative to paint all commercial sites within Iloilo City's city proper district. This effort aims to attract more tourists and bolster heritage tourism in the area. Mayor Raisa Tre±as expressed her gratitude for this opportunity, highlighting its significance during her tenure.
According to Philippines News Agency, representatives from the NCCA are scheduled to arrive on July 13 to finalize a memorandum of agreement with the city government, marking a collaborative effort to enhance the city's aesthetic appeal. The project involves calculating the surface area of buildings to determine the necessary volume of paint, a task currently in progress. Mayor Tre±as has also called upon local architects and engineers to assist in the assessment process.
Mayor Tre±as emphasized the importance of additional programs, such as a night market, to further enhance the city's appeal to tourists. She noted that JM Basa Street, also known as Calle Real, is a heritage zone with well-preserved buildings, making it a focal point for the city's tourism revival efforts. Tre±as reiterated the city's goal of reviving heritage tourism through strategic planning and initiatives targeted at increasing tourist footfall in the city proper area.
