Quezon city: The National Disaster Risk Reduction Management Council (NDRRMC) on Thursday upgraded its alert status from "blue" to "red" in anticipation of the possible effects of Tropical Depression Crising. In a Facebook post, the NDRRMC announced that the "red alert" status became effective at 12 noon.
According to Philippines News Agency, the alert status mandates that all detailed duty officers from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, Bureau of Fire Protection, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine National Police are now required to render duty at NDRRMC's operations center at Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. Technical staff from the Department of Science and Technology-Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Service, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of Agriculture, Department of Public Works and Highways, Department of Education, and Department of Health are also called to join the uniformed personnel on duty at the operations center.
In its 11 a.m. bulletin, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) reported that 14 areas are under Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 due to Crising. PAGASA also indicated that Crising may reach tropical storm category within the day and intensify into a severe tropical storm by Friday. It could potentially make landfall over mainland Cagayan over the weekend.
Several local government units have suspended classes in all levels for the day, and two flights have been cancelled due to the inclement weather brought by Crising.
