Manila: Damage to agriculture due to tropical cyclone Paolo has reached over PHP105 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said Tuesday. In its latest situational report, the NDRRMC detailed that PHP105,389,280 in agricultural losses were concentrated in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), impacting 3,888 farmers and fisherfolk.
According to Philippines News Agency, the affected crop area was estimated at 4,017.73 hectares. Of these, 141.65 hectares were classified as totally damaged, with no prospect of recovery, while 3,876.04 hectares were partially damaged, having a chance of recovery. The production loss in terms of volume was calculated at 7,782.78 metric tons.
The number of affected families was reported at 95,163, encompassing 315,281 individuals residing in Regions 1 (Ilocos Region), 2 (Cagayan Valley), CAR, Region 3 (Central Luzon), and Calabarzon. As of Tuesday afternoon, 388 displaced families remained in 30 evacuation centers, while 1,921 others were staying in alternative locations.
Tropical cyclone Paolo, internationally known as Matmo, made landfall in Dinapigue, Isabela, on October 3 and escalated to typhoon level before exiting the Philippine Area of Responsibility the following day.
