E. B. Magalona: The municipality of E. B. Magalona in Negros Occidental is engaging in a two-year study with a non-government organization to address non-revenue water (NRW) losses and improve services to consumers.
According to Philippines News Agency, Mayor Marvin Malacon announced that the collaboration will be executed through a memorandum of agreement (MOA) signed between the E. B. Magalona Waterworks Office (EBMWO) and the Alternative Indigenous Development Foundation, Inc. (AIDFI). The agreement outlines that AIDFI will assist EBMWO in developing a comprehensive program for managing NRW, which will be funded by the Coca-Cola Foundation.
Under the agreement, both parties are tasked with developing an NRW management plan to help EBMWO manage and minimize its NRW losses effectively. The study is set to conclude on December 31, 2026, following the MOA's signing on March 6.
The initiative will begin with four EBMWO employees attending a training-workshop at the Maynilad Water Academy. These employees will form a team dedicated to collaborating with AIDFI, from the initial training phase to the creation of the NRW management plan.
Throughout the study, representatives from EBMWO will collaborate with AIDFI and Maynilad Water Academy personnel to conduct activities such as scanning and surveying the water distribution system, conducting household surveys, detecting leaks, measuring flow, and other related tasks.
In addition, the Coca-Cola Foundation has partnered with AIDFI to work with five selected waterworks offices in Negros Occidental in developing the NRW management program.
