Bacolod: The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) on Wednesday urged Negrenses to support homegrown cocopreneurs in this year's Negros Coco Expo, with 23 coconut-based micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) taking part. The event's third edition, held from Dec. 2 to 6 at SM City Bacolod Main Atrium, features a wide selection of coco-derived products, including food and beverages, natural beauty and wellness items, handicrafts, and other sustainable goods.

According to Philippines News Agency, DTI-Negros Occidental Provincial Director Lynna Joy Cardinal emphasized that the Negros Coco Expo is more than just a trade fair; it represents "a convergence of minds and efforts under the Coconut Philippines banner of progress." Cardinal highlighted the resilience and dedication of coconut farmers and the creativity of processors in producing diverse coconut-based items. She encouraged the public to visit the expo and support local cocopreneurs who play a crucial role in driving innovation and growth within the local coconut sector.

The DTI is also showcasing its shared service facilities (SSF) program during the expo. Eighteen SSF cooperators are presenting products developed through shared access to modern equipment, tools, and technical training. This program aims to enhance production efficiency, improve product quality, and boost the competitiveness of small enterprises across the province.

In a separate statement, Department of Agriculture-Negros Island Region OIC-Regional Executive Director Jose Albert Barrogo commended the DTI for its active support of the local coconut industry. He described the expo as a celebration of the lives and aspirations of coconut farmers and MSMEs. Barrogo expressed optimism that innovation, elevation, and transformation could unlock greater opportunities for communities in the region.
