Negros oriental: Negros Oriental Governor Manuel Sagarbarria has announced his priority projects for the initial 100 days of his term during his oathtaking ceremony. The governor emphasized the transfer of a drive-thru flea market and the renovation of a sports complex as key projects on his agenda.
According to Philippines News Agency, Sagarbarria, speaking to reporters post-inauguration, revealed plans to relocate the current 'tabo' market from Barangay Piapi to a newly conceptualized drive-thru market in Barangay Batinguel, Dumaguete City. This move comes in light of a multi-million medical city project that will displace the existing market. The transfer aims to alleviate city traffic and boost income for local farmers by providing them a direct avenue to sell their produce.
In addition to the market relocation, Sagarbarria's plans include ongoing improvements at the Ninoy Aquino Freedom Park, with a particular focus on creating an exercise space for senior citizens. There's also the impending relocation of the Tabo sa PAO (Provincial Agriculture Office).
The governor acknowledged that while the market transfer is a significant initiative, it may extend beyond the first 100 days of his administration. Nonetheless, the new market is expected to serve the needs of residents in outlying villages, reducing their need to travel to the city.
Governor Sagarbarria, along with other provincial and city officials, including Vice Governor Cezanne Fritz Diaz and Dumaguete Mayor Manuel Sagarbarria, took their oaths at the convention center, officiated by Executive Judge Rose Marie Paras.
