New P28-Million Diversion Road Opens to Alleviate Traffic in Davao

Davao city: The Davao City Diversion Road-Buhangin-Tigatto Road, specifically the Buhangin Gallera Section, officially opened on Monday, offering relief to motorists and reducing congestion at the Milan intersection in the Buhangin district.

According to Philippines News Agency, Dean Ortiz, spokesperson for the Department of Public Works and Highways in the Davao Region (DPWH-11), announced that the new road, with a cost of PHP28.3 million, is expected to mitigate traffic issues during the monthlong closure of the Buhangin Underpass, which will undergo repairs starting April 17.

Ortiz highlighted the significant impact of this new development in alleviating traffic, particularly at the Milan intersection. The 396-meter road, now fully completed, effectively connects Tigatto junction to Carlos P. Garcia Highway.

The prioritization of this project was strategically planned to align with the underpass repair works, anticipated to last approximately 30 days. Ortiz also mentioned the potential opening of the Laverna Bypass Road near the airport in the near future.

In addition, Ortiz confirmed the demolition of the pedestrian overpass along Bajada due to public safety concerns related to its deteriorated state. He assured that plans for a replacement structure are underway.
