News and Information Bureau cited for best accounting, audit practices

The News and Information Bureau (NIB), one of the government media platforms under the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), was cited for its best practices in financial housekeeping. The Association of Government Accountants of the Philippines (AGAP) Inc. which has its base office at the Department of Budget and Management in Malacan~ang, Manila, handed over the "2025 AGAP Outstanding Accounting Office Award" to NIB during the recently held AGAP Annual Convention at the IEC Convention Center in this capital city. Ester Aldana, national president of AGAP Inc., said NIB was awarded 'for having exemplarily met the criteria set by AGAP Awards Committee on accuracy, timeliness, reliability, and compliance with Accounting and Budgeting Rules and Regulations.' It was cited this year for performing public financial management-related tasks aligned with the procurement, accounting, cashiering, auditing standards and other allied financial functions. Aldana said that this year's convention was aimed at empow ering financial managers and practitioners to leverage digital technology innovations in public finance, procurement, data privacy and cyber security. 'The program delves into these critical areas along with financial accountability and updates on employee social security benefits and privileges,' she said. Elvira De Veyra, NIB Audit Team supervising auditor who represented NIB Director Luis A. Morente in receiving the plaque from AGAP, thanked the body for noticing the office's best financial housekeeping practices. 'NIB has an unqualified audit opinion and we have a timely submission of reports,' De Veyra told the Philippine News Agency, the government's sole newswire agency under NIB.
