Manila: The Commission on Elections (Comelec) announced that no area within the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is currently being considered for placement under its direct supervision. This declaration comes as preparations proceed for the Bangsamoro Parliamentary Elections (BPE) scheduled for September 14.

According to Philippines News Agency, during a press briefing on Friday, Comelec Chairperson George Garcia clarified that there have been no discussions or decisions made to impose "Comelec Control" over any area in the region. "At present, there are no reports, indications of necessity, or petitions filed with the Comelec to declare any area as being under Comelec Control," Garcia stated. He emphasized that none of the 105 municipalities and two cities within the Bangsamoro region should be placed under this level of supervision.

Garcia expressed optimism that the security conditions in the region would remain stable as Election Day approaches, with collaboration from law enforcement agencies. He made a personal appeal for the preservation of peace and safety during the elections, underscoring the importance of protecting voters, Electoral Board members, and Comelec personnel.

The Comelec has the authority to place an area under its control if there is intense political rivalry, the presence of paramilitary forces or private armies, or if there have been instances of terrorism, fraud, or other election irregularities in previous elections. The goal is to ensure that elections are conducted in a free, peaceful, honest, orderly, and credible manner.
