Manila: There is no need for the government to look for funds for the implementation of the 'Pamilya Pass 1+3 Promo' in the Metro Rail Transit (MRT)-Line 3 and Light Rail Transit (LRT)-Lines 1 and 2, Malaca±ang said Wednesday.
According to Philippines News Agency, in a press briefing, Presidential Communications Office (PCO) Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro stated that no funding is required to carry out the initiative. The promo is designed to ease the financial burden of transport on families spending time together every Sunday. Castro explained that since the transit systems are government-run and typically less crowded on Sundays, the initiative does not necessitate additional budgeting.
Under the Pass 1+3 Promo, MRT-3, LRT-1, and LRT-2 offer free rides for up to three family members with one paying family member every Sunday. The promotion applies to family members such as parents and children, grandparents and grandchildren, siblings, as well as uncles and aunts or guardians with dependents.
The promo will be available until the last Sunday of June 2028. Castro noted that the next administration will have the option to continue the initiative or not. She emphasized that this timeline reflects the President's respect for the future leadership's right to make decisions regarding such programs.
