No Classes in Antique Due to Severe Weather Conditions

Antique: Classes from preschool to senior high school have been suspended in all 18 towns of Antique as of noon Friday. Michael Tolentino, Antique Provincial Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer III, said in an interview that local chief executives (LCEs) suspended face-to-face classes due to the effects of the southwest monsoon enhanced by Severe Tropical Storm Emong (international name Co-May) and Tropical Storm Dante (international name Francisco).

According to Philippines News Agency, the LCEs decided to suspend face-to-face classes in both public and private schools from preschool to senior high school after the province experienced heavy rainfall once again. The University of Antique and St. Anthony's College in Antique have also suspended their face-to-face classes.

Tolentino reported that the province of Antique is under the yellow category, which means it is expected to receive 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall in the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, two municipalities have already implemented preemptive evacuations due to the rising water levels in the Ypayo River in Patnongon and flooding in the area.

Currently, 116 individuals have been preemptively evacuated along the Ypayo River in the town proper of Patnongon and another 34 individuals in Barangay Odiong of Sibalom. These evacuees are being taken care of by the local government units.

Additionally, Tolentino noted that the collapse of slope protection and soil erosion on the roads in Barangay Casalngan in Hamtic heading to Iloilo City, and in Barangay Bagtason, Bugasong, has left only one lane passable to motorists. He advised the public to remain vigilant regarding the weather situation.
