Manila: There is no proof that fugitive businessman Charlie "Atong" Ang has been evading arrest with the help of police officers, acting Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Lt. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said Wednesday.

According to Philippines News Agency, Nartatez emphasized that the accusations lack evidence, stating, "Our personnel will not be distracted by these unfounded accusations. Walang pruweba ang sinumang nag-aakusa sa atin nang ganito (Whoever is making the accusation has no proof)."

Nartatez issued the statement amid reports that Ang is eluding authorities with help from police officers affiliated with him. He assured the public that the PNP is conscious of all allegations concerning its integrity and is committed to verifying and addressing such claims promptly to maintain the trust and confidence of the Filipino people in their police force.

Additionally, he dismissed claims that the police are withholding information about the whereabouts of Ang to claim the PHP10-million reward offered for his arrest. He reiterated that there are legal implications for aiding a fugitive, stressing that the consequences are more severe for police officers and individuals working in the government.

Ang is facing multiple arrest warrants due to kidnapping charges related to several missing cockfight enthusiasts.
