Manila: After achieving a historic "three-peat" in the 2024 Shakey's Super League, the National University is now setting its sights on back-to-back titles in the UAAP next year. According to Philippines News Agency, led by Alas Pilipinas standouts Bella Belen and Alyssa Solomon, the Lady Bulldogs swept the Collegiate Pre-Season Championship best-of-three title series after beating the De La Salle Lady Spikers, 23-25, 25-18, 25-16, 25-20, in Game 2 last Sunday at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum. The Lady Bulldogs won Game 1, 25-16, 25-12, 27-25, last Friday. "I'm also very excited that we won. It's a big help in our preparation for UAAP. That's the goal why we joined," decorated coach Sherwin Meneses said after winning his first title with NU. Meneses will return to the UAAP after coaching Adamson University in 2016. He took over Norman Miguel following NU's title victory in the National Invitationals last July. Belen bagged the Most Valuable Player and first Best Open Spiker awards. "I'm very happy that we ac hieved our goal for Shakey's because this is one of our stepping stones in preparation for the upcoming UAAP Season. The team did what it had to do, the winning just followed," Belen said. NU is now eyeing a second straight UAAP crown. "Maybe, our motivation is to move forward-to aim higher in our next games. Especially the UAAP, it's the big league for college. It's everyone's league. Even us, we're looking forward to playing in the UAAP because we know all teams will still rise, they have a lot to improve," Belen said. "We will not lose, we will not lag behind, we will improve and improve."
