Mandaluyong city: Defending champion National University Nazareth School (NUNS) advanced to the quarterfinals with a 25-22, 25-13 victory over California Academy in the Shakey's Girls Volleyball Invitational League (SGVIL) Rising Stars Cup Division 1 at La Salle Green Hills gym.
According to Philippines News Agency, Xyz Rayco led NUNS with seven points, contributing to their third consecutive win in Pool A. Team members Ysabella Cruz, Jhayna Bulandres, Raine Alonzo, and Jaila Adrao added scores, helping NUNS aim for a group stage sweep against Bethel Academy.
Bacolod Tay Tung, last year's runner-up, also secured a quarterfinal spot after defeating Holy Rosary College, 25-17, 25-18, marking their third win in Pool B. Rhose Almendralejo topped the game with 18 points, while Alexa Bertolano added seven.
Immaculate Conception College joined Bacolod Tay Tung in the quarterfinals from Pool B, overcoming reigning NCAA champion Perpetual Help with an 11-25, 25-14, 16-14 win. Bacolod Tay Tung and Immaculate Conception College are set to face each other to determine their seedings.
In Pool D, De La Salle Zobel won against Chiang Kai Shek College, 25-20, 25-21, achieving their second victory in four games.
In Division 2, Corpus Christi School reached the quarterfinals after defeating The Beacon Academy, 25-11, 25-7, maintaining a perfect 4-0 in Pool E. NUNS-B (Pool G) and Bacolod Tay Tung-B (Pool H) also advanced.
Other results included Miriam College's win over MGC-New Life Christian Academy, 25-18, 25-19, in Pool E, while St. Theresa's College-QC beat Everest International Academy, 25-13, 25-22. Additionally, the guest team, Diverse Auckland Cubs, triumphed over Poveda College, 25-23, 25-16, in Pool F.
