Manila: National University's Bella Belen and Ateneo de Manila University's Kennedy Batas have emerged as the frontrunners in statistical points (SP) after the first round of the UAAP Season 87 collegiate volleyball tournament. Belen, who stands at 5-foot-8, has previously been named MVP in Seasons 84 and 86, and currently boasts 159.600 SPs in the women's division.
According to Philippines News Agency, Belen, an opposite spiker, is seventh in the league with 107 points and ranks eighth in spiking efficiency at 33.47 percent. She leads in aces with 0.63 per set, is sixth in digs at 2.60 per set, and fifth in receiving with a 33.58 percent efficiency rate. Belen also leads the Best Outside Spiker category with 303 positional points (PPs), followed by La Salle's Angel Canino and Adamson's Shaina Nitura.
La Salle's Shevana Laput follows closely in the SP rankings with 157.692 SPs, while Nitura, Season 85 MVP Canino, and NU's Vange Alinsug round out the top five. Other notable players in the top 10 include NU's Alyssa Solomon, UST's Angge Poyos, and UST's Regina Jurado.
In the Best Middle Blocker race, La Salle's Lilay Del Castillo holds the lead with 181 PPs, with Ateneo's AC Miner and UE's Riza Nogales trailing. Laput also ranks first in the Best Opposite Spiker category, ahead of Solomon and Jurado. FEU's Tin Ubaldo leads the Best Setter category, while NU's Shaira Jardio tops the Best Libero category with 205 PPs.
In the men's division, Kennedy Batas from Ateneo leads with 160.370 SPs. Batas is first in points with 142, ranks fourth in spiking efficiency, and is a top performer in aces and digging. UST rookie JJ Macam follows Batas in SPs, with FEU's Mikko Espartero, La Salle's Noel Kampton, and UST's Popoy Colinares completing the top five.
Batas also leads in the Best Opposite Spiker race, while Macam tops the Best Outside Spiker table. Colinares leads the Best Middle Blocker category, UST's Dux Yambao is first in the Best Setter category, and La Salle's Nard Guerrero is the leading libero.
