OCD Hails Private Group for Chicken Donation to Kanlaon Evacuees

Canlaon City: The Office of Civil Defense (OCD) has expressed gratitude to a non-government organization for donating more than 800 dressed chickens to internally-displaced persons (IDPs) in Canlaon City, Negros Oriental, following the recent eruption of Mount Kanlaon. The donation has provided much-needed food assistance to evacuees housed in evacuation centers.

According to Philippines News Agency, OCD administrator Undersecretary Ariel Nepomuceno stated that the assistance has helped restore a sense of normalcy by allowing evacuees to enjoy regular meals. He extended heartfelt gratitude to ARISE Philippines for their support to the evacuees affected by the volcanic eruption, emphasizing the critical role the donation played in providing vital food assistance during challenging times.

Nepomuceno highlighted the invaluable partnership between ARISE Philippines and the OCD in responding to disasters. He acknowledged the organization as a beacon of hope and resilience for the people of Canlaon City. ARISE Philippines is part of the Private Sector Alliance for Disaster Resilient Societies (ARISE), which is led by the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR).

The donation process was facilitated through Savemore's San Carlos City branch, ensuring that the aid reached those in need. The initiative was personally overseen by Nepomuceno, who reached out to ARISE Philippines to request their assistance for the eruption victims. He also visited Negros Island last week to oversee and evaluate the ongoing response operations.

The OCD, in collaboration with various partners, continues to diligently work to address the needs of the affected population. Nepomuceno emphasized that contributions from private organizations significantly enhance the capacity to provide essential aid and support to those in distress.
