Opening of Bacolod City General Hospital Eyed in 2027

Bacolod: The Bacolod City General Hospital is expected to open in 2027 as additional funds are set to be allocated by the national government for its completion. Mayor Greg Gasataya announced that Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri has committed to securing more funding to finalize the construction of the healthcare facility located on donated land in Barangay Vista Alegre.

According to Philippines News Agency, Senator Zubiri, during an ocular inspection of the hospital site with Mayor Gasataya, pledged to engage the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the Department of Health (DOH) to determine the additional funds required for the project's completion. Zubiri emphasized that the Bacolod City General Hospital would significantly enhance healthcare services for the residents of Bacolod and Negros Occidental.

The hospital's groundbreaking took place in September 2022, and by early 2025, the national government had allocated between PHP600 million and PHP700 million for its construction. The project includes a four-story main hospital building managed by the DOH-Western Visayas through the city government, under the Health Facilities Enhancement Program. The DPWH-Western Visayas is responsible for constructing three support buildings.

The 127-bed facility will feature an emergency room, operating theater, intensive care unit, diagnostic laboratory, dental clinic, pharmacy, and chapel. The establishment of the Bacolod City General Hospital is authorized under Republic Act 11564, with legislation authored by Gasataya and sponsored by Zubiri in the Senate. The new hospital aims to alleviate congestion at the DOH's Corazon Locsin Montelibano Regional Hospital and other healthcare facilities in the city.
