Over 1.2 Million Commuters Avail Free Train Rides on Labor Day: Metro Manila

Manila: Over 1.2 million commuters benefited from free train rides across three rail lines in Metro Manila on the first day of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s Labor Day 'Libreng Sakay' initiative.

According to Philippines News Agency, the Department of Transportation (DOTr) reported that this figure marks an 'all-time high' in Libreng Sakay ridership across the Light Rail Transit Line 1 (LRT-1), LRT-2, and the Metro Rail Transit Line 3 (MRT-3). The DOTr emphasized the significant impact of the program and the positive public response to the Libreng Sakay initiative implemented by the government for Labor Day.

The program was described as President Marcos' gesture of appreciation for the hardworking Filipino workers and their contributions to the country. The four-day free ride program commenced on April 30 and is set to conclude on May 3.

On the first day of the program, DOTr Secretary Vince Dizon visited the Ayala Station of the MRT-3, where he engaged with passengers as part of an inspection of the free ride initiative.
