Baguio: Over a thousand job vacancies were offered by 22 participating employers during the Kalayaan Day Job Fair held in Baguio in conjunction with the celebration of the 127th Philippine Independence Day. The event aimed to provide job opportunities as a form of economic freedom for attendees.
According to Philippines News Agency, Olivia Obrero, assistant regional director of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), highlighted during a media interview at the event hosted at SM City Baguio that the job fair was organized to celebrate the nation's independence. The initiative was intended to bring economic freedom by providing employment opportunities to the locals. Obrero emphasized the importance of giving job seekers the freedom to find employment and improve their economic standing.
The job fair featured positions predominantly in industries such as retail and service, manufacturing, accommodation, and the food business. One of the successful applicants, Jonil Alimpolos, was hired on the spot as a manufacturing production crew member for Bay Sport Manufacturing Inc. He expressed that the job fair was beneficial for job seekers and could significantly aid families when a member finds employment.
Zailyn Bulintao, an 18-year-old Senior High School graduate from Alno National High School in La Trinidad, Benguet, attended the job fair with the hope of securing a job to fund her college education. Meanwhile, a separate job fair took place in Tabuk City, Kalinga, with participation from 11 employers.
