ILOILO CITY - A total of 2,253 public schools in Western Visayas shifted to alternative delivery mode (ADM) on Tuesday following the suspension of face-to-face classes by their respective local government units due to inclement weather brought about by Tropical Storm Kristine. 'All were declared by local government units and due to inclement weather,' said Hernani Escullar Jr., regional information officer of the Department of Education. The suspension of in-person classes resulted in some 982,359 learners shifting to ADM. Based on available data as of 9 a.m. Tuesday, the highest number of suspended in-person classes came from the various schools divisions in Negros Occidental with 663 schools, followed by Antique with 512 schools. These were followed by Capiz with 447, Iloilo province with 419, Bacolod City with 70, Roxas City with 50 schools, Aklan with 26, and Iloilo City with 66. The latest to declare was Iloilo City, where face-to-face classes were suspended at all levels in both public and private educational institutions in the afternoon. Acting Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon approved the recommendation of the Iloilo City Emergency Operations Center for the suspension to ensure the safety of learners and the general public. Weather Advisory No. 6 issued by the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) showed moderate to heavy rains are expected Tuesday afternoon.
