Pangasinan: A total of 33,343 families or 49,413 individuals in Pangasinan are affected by persistent heavy rains caused by the southwest monsoon (habagat) as of Wednesday morning, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
According to Philippines News Agency, Pia Flores, emergency head of the Pangasinan PDRRMO, stated that the affected families are from 169 barangays in districts 1 to 3 of the province. Reports and monitoring by the local government units (LGUs) indicate that 64 barangays in Mangaldan, Sta. Barbara, Calasiao, Mapandan, Mangatarem, Lingayen, Aguilar, Binmaley, Agno towns, and in the cities of Dagupan and San Carlos have experienced flooding.
Labrador town faced a flash flood, though the waters have since receded. As of Tuesday, 649 families evacuated their homes, but some have been able to return due to the receding floodwaters. The PDRRMO is in the process of consolidating updated data.
Flores added, "The water level have receded even in the river systems since there was not much rainfall whole day yesterday." The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in Dagupan City reported 23 millimeters (mm) of accumulated rainfall from 8 a.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Wednesday, a decrease compared to previous days.
The water level of the San Roque Dam stands at 274.24 meters above sea level (masl) as of 1 p.m. Wednesday. Its normal high water level is 280 masl, with a spilling level at 290 masl.
In response to the situation, the provincial government of Pangasinan, through its Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office, has provided relief assistance to evacuees, including food packs, hot meals, hygiene kits, sleeping mats, blankets, and tents. Additionally, the PSWDO is repacking 10,000 food packs for distribution, while LGUs and the Department of Social Welfare and Development are augmenting relief operations.
