Manila: The operator of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) is calling on owners of more than 20 abandoned cars at the airport to reclaim their vehicles or they will soon be towed. The New NAIA Infra Corp. (NNIC) said Thursday some of those vehicles have been parked at the airport since 2014. "NNIC is offering owners a final chance to reclaim their cars before they are towed and impounded," it said in a news release. It is waiving any applicable fees to encourage owners to reclaim the vehicles. "These abandoned vehicles are taking up space that should be available for passengers. They are also a security and safety concern, especially in their deteriorating states,' it said. The NNIC said it is carrying out further audits across the four terminals and is expecting to discover more abandoned vehicles. Owners must present proof of ownership and valid identification to reclaim their vehicles. "After a grace period, unclaimed vehicles will be towed and impounded at government facilities," the NNI C said, without specifying the grace period. A vehicle covered with dust and parked at the NAIA for a long time recently created a buzz among social media users. Netizens have been wondering about the cost the vehicle owner would have to pay as the NNIC increased the overnight parking fee from PHP300 to PHP1,200 effective Oct. 1.
