Manila: A PHP1.5 million Swine Industry Recovery Project (SIRP) is set to be established in Lala, Lanao del Norte, according to an official announcement. Vic Thor Palarca, a media specialist at the Agriculture Training Institute (ATI) 10 (Northern Mindanao), shared that the San Isidro Upper Farmers Multi-Purpose Cooperative (SIUFAMPCO) will manage the project.
According to Philippines News Agency, the cheque and groundbreaking ceremony took place last Wednesday, marking the commencement of a facility that will accommodate about 40-head finisher capacity under the SIRP initiative. This project is a significant step in the Department of Agriculture's strategy to revive the swine industry through the Integrated National Swine Production Initiatives for Recovery and Expansion.
ATI-10 Director Myrna Echavez highlighted the involvement of Lala's municipal government, alongside the Provincial Agriculture Office and the Provincial Veterinary Office of Lanao del Norte, as essential to the project's success. Jacinta Cellona, SIUFAMPCO chairperson, emphasized that the cheque transfer and groundbreaking signify a commitment to enhancing Lanao's swine industry capacity.
The SIRP is designed to aid the recovery of the swine industry, which has been severely impacted by the African swine fever outbreak since 2019. Funded by the Department of Agriculture's National Livestock Program through ATI-10, the project stipulates that recipients return 40 piglets starting from the second cycle.
