Ilocos: The Ilocos police have confiscated a total of PHP13.5 million worth of illegal drugs from January to May 15 this year. The operations resulted in the seizure of around 2,000 grams of shabu through 34 buy-busts, eight warrant arrests, two search warrants, and nine other enforcement actions. A total of 53 suspects were arrested -25 in Pangasinan, 19 in La Union, five in Ilocos Norte, and four in Ilocos Sur.
According to Philippines News Agency, PRO1 director Brig. Gen. Lou Evangelista stated that the police continue to strengthen their anti-illegal drug campaign. He credited the results to active police work and community cooperation, emphasizing the hard work of police personnel and the public's involvement.
Among the largest operations took place on March 21-22, when three high-value suspects were caught with 172 grams of shabu worth PHP1.17 million in Dagupan and Urdaneta cities. Another significant series of busts occurred on April 29-30, with eight suspects arrested and over PHP1.2 million worth of illegal drugs seized in Pangasinan and La Union.
Evangelista also highlighted the need for tighter maritime patrols following the recent discovery of PHP1.5 billion worth of floating shabu off the coast of Zambales, which could have implications for the Ilocos Region. He noted that such incidents could affect the region, referencing a similar occurrence last year when millions worth of shabu were found floating off the coast of the Ilocos Region.
