Basilan: The Basilan provincial government unveiled a PHP5.3 million solar power project Monday evening to provide stable electricity to the government center in Lamitan City. Governor Mujiv Hataman stated that the newly installed 160-kilowatt system will ensure a continuous power supply to all offices at the center, with additional capacity reserved for the upcoming provincial board building and gymnasium.

According to Philippines News Agency, the governor mentioned that the current power requirements stand at 52KW, leaving enough surplus to cater to the new structures nearing completion. The solar panels, which also function as a parking canopy, protect provincial vehicles from weather elements. The project was financed through the provincial government's 20 percent development fund.

Governor Hataman emphasized the energy efficiency and sustainability of the system, highlighting the provincial government's commitment to clean energy initiatives. Following the activation of the solar power system, the governor also illuminated the Ramadan Mubarak lights at the Capitol building.

In celebration of Ramadan, Hataman announced a series of nightly activities, including raffle draws, with prizes such as rice, cash, and a motorcycle. Additionally, over 1,300 provincial government employees will receive a PHP10,000 Ramadan bonus. Dr. Aboulkhair Tarason, Grand Mufti of Basilan, urged residents to embrace Ramadan with a spirit of purity and forgiveness.
