Iloilo city: At least PHP6.19 million in assistance has been provided to families in Western Visayas affected by the southwest monsoon (habagat) enhanced by tropical cyclone Inday. The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Western Visayas (DSWD-6) reported that the weather disturbance has impacted 362 villages across 40 local government units, affecting a total of 12,523 families or 43,831 individuals.
According to Philippines News Agency, 688 families or 2,700 individuals are currently staying in 65 evacuation centers, while 1,292 families or 4,752 individuals are receiving assistance outside these centers. The DSWD report also highlighted that 34 houses have been totally damaged and 603 partially damaged due to the severe weather conditions.
The total cost of DSWD assistance amounted to PHP5.989 million, as stated in the agency's report. The remaining funds were sourced from local government units and nongovernment organizations. As of 6 p.m. Sunday, DSWD-6 had PHP159.13 million in available resources to continue their relief efforts in the region.
