Pangasinan: The PHP96.5-million riverbank protection project along Balincaguing River in Burgos town, Pangasinan, is slated for completion by the third quarter of 2025. The project aims to construct flood mitigation structures and enhance the drainage system to efficiently manage and control floodwaters in Barangay Anapao.
According to Philippines News Agency, Esperanza Tinaza, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) information officer in the Ilocos Region, stated that the initiative will serve as a critical barrier against erosion and flooding. This measure is particularly significant due to the anticipated effects of the La Ni±a phenomenon.
The project, funded under Regular Infrastructure, commenced on November 27, 2024. It encompasses various construction activities, including slope protection, installation of steel sheet piles, and drainage works. Tinaza emphasized that the project reflects DPWH's dedication to reducing flood risks and enhancing disaster preparedness.
As part of a broader Flood Management Program, the undertaking also seeks to increase public awareness of flood mitigation strategies and promote sustainable land-use practices in vulnerable areas.
