Manila: The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has announced that the recently concluded Cope Thunder Philippines 25-1 (CT PH 25-1) exercises with the United States Pacific Air Forces (PACAF) have established a foundation for enhanced multilateral cooperation.
According to Philippines News Agency, the air exercises wrapped up with a closing ceremony and a hotwash session at Clark Air Base, Mabalacat City, Pampanga. The hotwash session provided an opportunity for participants to review the exercises, analyze operational outcomes, share insights, and refine strategies for future collaborations, as stated by PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Consuelo Castillo.
Col. Castillo emphasized that CT PH 25-1 serves as a preparatory exercise for the forthcoming large-scale "Balikatan" Exercise, laying a robust foundation for sustained multinational cooperation and improved operational synergy. The closing activities were led by PAF 5th Fighter Wing commander Brig. Gen. Leo Fontanilla.
The exercises, which began on April 8, included the participation of 700 PAF personnel and a diverse fleet of aircraft such as FA-50PH fighter jets, A-29B "Super Tucano" close air support aircraft, and S-76A and S-70i "Black Hawk" helicopters. The PACAF contingent included 750 personnel and 12 F-16 fighter jets. CT PH 25-1 featured a comprehensive program involving subject matter expert exchanges and flight and field training exercises.
This event also marked the PAF's first hosting of an International Observer Program, with representatives from Malaysia, Thailand, Australia, Japan, and Indonesia in attendance. CT PH 25-1 is seen as a significant step in enhancing joint operational readiness and strengthening defense ties between the Philippines and the United States, contributing positively to the Armed Forces of the Philippines' ongoing modernization and capability development efforts.
