PAF Helicopter’s Precautionary Landing in Southern Leyte

Manila: A Philippine Air Force (PAF) helicopter conducted a precautionary landing in St. Bernard, Southern Leyte on Wednesday due to fluctuating temperature in one of its engines.

According to Philippines News Agency, PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Christina Basco stated that the S-70i Black Hawk helicopter was performing Rapid Damage Assessment and Needs Analysis (RDANA) operations when its crew encountered the problem. "All crew and passengers are safe and were assisted by local authorities," Basco said.

She noted that the S-70i Black Hawk, being a twin-engine helicopter, is designed to safely land with only one operational engine. "The crew followed standard procedures to ensure everyone's safety," Basco added.

A PAF maintenance and investigation team is underway to assess the aircraft's condition and provide immediate requirements.

The incident happened a day after a PAF Super Huey helicopter crashed in Agusan del Sur while conducting humanitarian assistance and disaster response operation in the wake of Typhoon Tino, killing its two pilots and four aircrew members. PAF identified the six as pilots Capt. Paulie B. Dumagan and 2nd Lt. Royce Louis, and aircrew members Sgt. Yves Sijub, Sgt. John Christopher Golfo, Airman First Class Ericson Merico, and Airman Ameer Khaidar Apion. "The PAF extends its deepest sympathies to the families, friends, and loved ones of the departed," PAF said in a separate statement.
