Manila: The Philippine Air Force (PAF) has officially inaugurated its pioneering two-in-one full-motion flight simulator (FMFS) and accompanying training facility in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu. This cutting-edge simulator is designed to train PAF's helicopter pilots, featuring interchangeable cockpits for S-70i Black Hawk and Bell 412EP helicopters.

According to Philippines News Agency, the FMFS provides pilots with an immersive and realistic training experience, allowing them to practice complex maneuvers and emergency procedures safely. This reduces the necessity for actual aircraft use. PAF spokesperson Col. Ma. Christina Basco highlighted that the simulator aims to boost pilot proficiency, lower operational risks, and optimize training during aircraft downtime. It is also expected to contribute to significant cost savings on fuel and maintenance over time.

The simulator, acquired under Horizon 1 of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Modernization Program, was delivered by Romania-based SIMULTEC SRL in March under a PHP246 million contract. It was installed on August 18 and successfully cleared the final technical inspection and acceptance on November 30.

The inauguration ceremony took place at the Benito Ebuen Air Base, attended by prominent figures including PAF chief Lt. Gen. Arthur Cordura, Air Mobility Command head Maj. Gen. Ramil Oloroso, and 205th Tactical Helicopter Wing commander Brig. Gen. Moises Micor. The new simulator is seen as a significant enhancement to the PAF's mission readiness and its capacity to meet the training demands of an expanding helicopter fleet.
