Manila: Top seed Ella Mhae Paglalunan has secured a spot in the quarterfinals of the Philta National Age Group Championships girls' U14 division, following her decisive victory over Krystelle Marie Dela Cruz, 6-1, 6-0, at the Rizal Memorial Tennis Center.
According to Philippines News Agency, the 13-year-old Paglalunan, who is an incoming Grade 7 homeschool student at Harvest Christian School International in Cebu, will face No. 8 seed Anica Gabriel Palacio in the next round. Palacio earned her quarterfinal position by defeating Zopia Alexa Morales, 6-1, 6-0. Other players who made it to the quarterfinals include No. 4 Francine Madelyn Wong, who overcame No. 15 Neve Celestine Salvador, 6-4, 6-1, and No. 6 Maria Teresinha Isabel Calingasan, who secured a 6-2, 6-3 win over Arabella Maria Barandiaran.
In the girls' U12 category, top seed Kyla Caguioa advanced to the semifinals after a challenging match against No. 7 Margaret Audry Abacan, finishing with a score of 6-0, 4-6 (10-4). She is set to compete against No. 3 Mikaela Kate Chavez, who defeated No. 6 Jaynelle Dania Castro, 6-3, 6-4. No. 2 Donnarose Olivades also claimed a semifinal spot by winning 6-2, 6-2 over No. 8 Misty Mae Principe. Olivades will face No. 4 Eilithia Comia, who triumphed over No. 5 Mira Andrea Yvonne Plaza, 6-2, 6-2.
Meanwhile, top seeds Kresthan Belacas and Yuan Torrente have secured their places in the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam-category event. Belacas defeated No. 13 Semiah Passpie, 6-2, 6-3, and will compete against No. 6 Jairus Peralta, who won against Djokovic Garcia, 6-0, 6-2, in the boys' U14 division. Other quarterfinalists include No. 3 Jan Caleb Villeno, No. 4 Francisco Juan III, and No. 5 Claudwin Seven Tonacao.
In the boys' U12 division, Yuan Torrente dominated No. 16 Francis Antonio Angeles, 6-0, 6-0, and will face No. 10 Carlos Acaso next, who won against John Aron Emana, 6-4, 6-4. The remaining players advancing to the quarterfinals are No. 2 Francis Jayvee Dimzon, No. 3 Joaquin Dacyon, No. 4 Liam James Harrow, No. 5 Noel Andre Zachary Zoleta, No. 6 Rafael Benigno Cablitas, and No. 9 Jacob Adam Dizon.
